Anthony Cimaglio

“Tony” | “Uncle Tony” | “Coach”
January 12, 1922 – April 17, 2010
Born Jan. 12, 1922, in Providence, R.I., Tony moved to Painesville as an infant. He graduated from Thomas W. Harvey High School Class of 1941 and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Painesville VFW Post 2595. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the European Theatre. Mr. Cimaglio was employed at the IRC Fibers Corp. for many years until 1971; he also was a part-time school bus driver for Painesville and St. Mary’s school System, and retired as a weigh station officer in Willoughby for the Ohio State Patrol.
He devoted much of his life volunteering for Harvey High School; you would see him running along the sidelines of every home game working the chains or the down marker, and was also a coach and equipment manager. He loved the “Red Raiders.” He also coached football for Hobart Middle School, St. Gabriel’s School in Concord, and St. Mary’s School in Painesville. He was a founding member of Harvey Athletic Boosters and also a member of the Harvey Marching Band Boosters. In 1990, he was inducted into the Harvey High School Hall of Fame as a distinguished graduate and athlete. He was known to generations of teachers, students, and athletes as “Uncle Tony” or “Coach.”
