KARL BOOTHE
Karl is a 1985 graduate of Harvey High School. He is an eight-time
varsity letter winner who played football (three varsity letters, basketball
(two varsity letters) and baseball (three varsity letters) during his
high school career. He was a two-time football captain (junior and
senior years) and team captain in his senior year for both basketball

Karl received several players of the week awards and earned All County
Defensive Back Honors in 1984. He was voted Best Offensive Player
for the Harvey Baseball Team in 1984. Karl also played in the Tri
County Save-A-Site All Star football game. Karl won the David Merriam
Award in his senior year and was also a member of the Fellowship
of Christian Athletes in 1984.
During the time that Karl played sports at HHS, they played as an independent
school so no All Conference Awards were available to the

schedule and many games were played against schools outside of the
Lake County area making it very difficult for Harvey Athletes to garner
district awards.
After graduation, Karl joined the Army and served as a combat medic,
and retired after a 22-year career. He earned the expert field medical
badge, flight medic badge, airborne badge and air assault badge. He
also served as an emergency medical technician, allergy immunization
technician and hyperbaric inside tender. He was deployed to both Bosnia
and Iraq during his career with the Army.
On April 1, 2008 he retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class
from the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. From 2008-2010,
he worked as a government contractor teaching military medical personnel
how to work and use electronic medical records in both Kuwait

team.
Walter’s performance at the 1988 State Track Meet, which helped the
Red Raiders secure the class AA state runner-up trophy, set the standard
for HHS track and field.WALLACE (W.R.) PERSONS
It is believed Persons is the FIRST EVER Harvey High School athlete
to win an individual state championship.

Persons was a three-year letterman in football and a four-year letterman
in basketball and lettered in track and field. He was also a senior
captain in all three sports as well.
Persons is the first Harvey athlete to win a state championship. He

the winner in events that resulted in a tie.
Persons is a 1931 graduate of Case Institute (now Case Western Reserve
University) with a bachelor’s degree in science. He received a
master of science degree – Society of the Sigma Xi. He was elected to
